The goal is to fund an educational display of the trunk as well as class projects that use all the remaining pieces of the tree.
Trunk Display
We will preserve and display the trunk piece in a way that is easy to move around the school as well as being educational for students. The plan is to build a rolling base with posts and a frame that supports the upright cross-section of the trunk. This is similar to what one might find in a museum. We are requesting bids from local design/build firms and artists. The project is estimated between $7,00 and $10,000.
Classroom and Garden Projects
One project will be a community bench for the playground and garden, using large stumps from the Maya Lin tree and oak wood salvaged from another tree.
There are several branch pieces that can be divided between classrooms for various art projects. Teachers will have time to decide what they would like to incorporate into their curriculum.
